What is Atlassian's System of Work, and who benefits from it? Explore how to optimise workflows, empower teams and enhance collaboration with this approach.

We need to work together as a team to get our best work done. But it's difficult, mainly when your team members are spread out across different locations, time zones, and cultures. So, we're always looking for new ways to help people do their best work. This means giving them the proper support and tools they need to succeed.
Introducing the 'System of Work'. It's a phrase that's been popping up more and more. If you're working with Atlassian products, you might be familiar with it. If not, we're here to explain what it means and show you how to use it in your everyday work for teamwork to succeed.

What is Atlassian's System of Work?

Atlassian defines its System of Work as a philosophy of how technology-driven organisations should work, connecting technology and business teams to accelerate progress and maximise team impact.'
So, let's break that down. The Atlassian System of Work was developed to address the challenges of today's workplaces by offering a complete set of tools and strategies that improve collaboration, optimise workflows, and increase productivity across any industry sector.
Integral to the philosophy is a layer called ‘Teamwork Foundations’, which connects the dots between teams that have traditionally worked within their own tools and platforms–Jira Align, Jira, Confluence, and others. This will improve transparency and provide better ways of aligning more closely with the organisation's overall strategy through a comprehensive suite of tools that support collaboration, including newer developments such as Loom for asynchronous video messaging and Rovo, an AI teamwork tool for Jira, Jira Service Management and Confluence. In turn, this will help teams understand goals and how to engage with their teammates more effectively.

Who will benefit from adopting the System of Work?

In short, everyone! This approach makes things easier for all teams—development, IT, sales, marketing, HR, you name it. Atlassian's system ensures that every team has the right tools for their job while making it simple for teams to work together, share information, and track progress against common goals.
  • Leadership teams who focus on the big picture: setting strategies, managing portfolios, and making customers happy.
  • Product and development teams are focused on world-class software development: finding ideas, building software and improving developer experience.
  • IT operations and support teams who keep things running smoothly: managing services and supporting employees and customers.
  • All business teams, including marketing, sales, legal, and HR, align their work to business goals, plan and track projects, and unleash knowledge.
